Don’t I have the right to work in the UK?
You work in the UK, so if you apply in one of the following situations, you do not need a work permit:
- You are a British citizen.
- You are a citizen of the European Economic Area (EEA) – and below
- You are a Swiss nation.
Countries of the European Economic Area: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary and Ireland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Liechtenstein, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, and the United Kingdom.
When you apply for UK citizenship in the UK, you will need to apply for a UK residence permit or confirm your right to work (for example, a valid UK insurance policy number).
If you are not a citizen of the United Kingdom, the European Economic Area, or a citizen of Switzerland, you may have to work to apply for a visa to the United Kingdom.
You must be able to apply for a visa from a delegation outside the UK or the UK Embassy in your country.
But keep in mind that such a visa does not mean that you can work in the UK on your own, you also need to obtain a work permit to start working.
If you are already working, working or need a visa, but work in the UK is prohibited, you may need a work permit.
